Top 5 Best Innova Distance Drivers

The Destroyer from Innova is one of the easiest to use high speed drivers, which is one of the reasons it’s so popular. When I first began playing disc golf it was the Destroyer that my friend gave me to throw, and I loved it right away.

When throwing the Destroyer you should have no issues with control. It can easily be thrown for both backhand and forehand shots which is great since a lot of high speed drivers are tough for forehands.

Since it’s an overstable disc it really shines at reaching your maximum distance for players of all levels. You can find this driver in all of the popular Innova plastics depending on how much stability and turn you’re looking for.

  • Flight Ratings: Speed 12 | Glide 5 | Turn -1 | Fade 3
  • Weight: 150-175g
  • Skill Level: Intermediate
  • Beadless: Yes

Final Verdict:

The best selling driver of all time from Innova, the Destroyer provides control, glide, speed, and maximum distance for any player. It’s a great disc to throw from the tee and has great grip for both backhands and forehands.

Another disc that you can always see being thrown out on the course is the Innova Wraith. It’s an 11 speed disc that has a massive amount of glide and a good amount of fade.

The Wraith is a great option for when you want to throw a controller hyzer that will continue down the fairway before turning off at the end of the flight.

I always carry a Wraith when I play since it’s one of my favorite discs to throw in heavy winds. It’s an overstable disc and the rim is thin enough to cut through the wind and continue flying.

  • Flight Ratings: Speed 11 | Glide 5 | Turn -1 | Fade 3
  • Weight: 150-175g
  • Skill Level: Intermediate
  • Beadless: Yes

Final Verdict:

One of the better discs to throw in the wind, the Innova Wraith gives you control and distance no matter the conditions. This combination of control and distance is the biggest reason it’s such a popular and useful disc to bag.

3. Innova Beast

With slightly less speed the Innova Beast offers a slightly different experience when throwing compared to the Destroyer or Wraith. The slower speed makes it a better option for newer players, but it has more turn so some might struggle with the disc turning over mid flight.

For players with higher arm speeds the drivers mentioned above would be better if you’re going for maximum distance. But, for players who struggle to generate enough speed, the Beast is a perfect middle ground between high-speed drivers and fairway drivers.

Once you get some practice with the Beast it’s one of the best discs to use for hyzer flips, turnovers, or even roller shots.

  • Flight Ratings: Speed 10 | Glide 5 | Turn -2 | Fade 2
  • Weight: 150-175g
  • Skill Level: Intermediate
  • Beadless: Yes

Final Verdict:

The Beast is an understable driver that doesn’t require as much arm speed to get the full flight pattern. Newer players might struggle with turning the disc over, while more experienced players will be able to shape their shots and get great distance with flex throws.

If you’re looking for a high speed driver that has an insane amount of glide, look no further than the Innova Shryke. It has 13 speed and 6 glide which makes it one of the best options to throw from the tee.

Since it does have a higher speed I wouldn’t recommend this disc to complete beginners, but once you have a bit of practice throwing it’s easy to pick up. One of my favorite things about the Shryke is that it has a manageable fade. This means that even with a hugh drive you won’t have trouble keeping the disc in the fairway and towards the basket.

  • Flight Ratings: Speed 13 | Glide 6 | Turn -2 | Fade 2
  • Weight: 155-175g
  • Skill Level: Intermediate
  • Beadless: Yes

Final Verdict:

The Shryke gives any disc golfer the ability to easily increase and push past their maximum throwing distance. If you can generate enough power to satisfy the 13 speed required, this disc will continue to glide on whatever line it’s released on.

5. Innova Katana

One of the more difficult drivers to throw, the Innova Katana offers a lot of turn and glide if thrown correctly. Just looking at the disc stats you can imagine the type of shots that you could manage once you understand the stability of the disc.

In the past I’ve enjoyed using the Katana for big turnover shots and throwing into any strong tailwinds. A lot of disc golfers prefer to bag a lighter weight model so that you can perfect the flex and turnover throws.

  • Flight Ratings: Speed 13 | Glide 5 | Turn -3 | Fade 3
  • Weight: 150-175g
  • Skill Level: Intermediate
  • Beadless: Yes

Final Verdict:

The Katana is an interesting high-speed driver that is mainly used for hyzer-flips and for reaching max distance drives. It has a comfortable grip and rim which makes it a popular disc for backhands as well as forehands.

How to Choose the Best Innova Distance Driver – Buyer’s Guide

Even though I only went through five Innova drivers, they offer many more that might fit your individual playstyle better. Here are the three factors I focus on when looking for new drivers or discs to try out from Innova.

Speed

The speed of the disc is one of the more important things to consider when looking into discs. Like most other disc golf brands, the drivers from Innova range from around 10 to 14 at a maximum. It’s important to choose a driver that you have the arm speed for, otherwise you might struggle to get the most control and distance out of the disc.

Fade

Since drivers are the main disc we use to throw far, the number for fade is just as important as the speed. There’s no point throwing the disc far if it’ll end up fading way off into the woods at the end. I always try to find a driver with a controllable fade so that my disc will more reliably finish where I want it to land.

Plastic

The plastic type is one of the factors that make up the stability and weight of a disc. Some people prefer to throw their drivers in Champion plastic, which will make them more overstable and heavier. For me, it’s important to test out the different plastics from Innova, since I enjoy using different grades depending on which disc I’m throwing.
