3 Disc Golf Discs That Float (With Photos)

As much as I love playing disc golf, losing a disc has to be my least favorite thing that happens on the course. Luckily, there are a few things that can help you to retrieve your disc if it lands in the water.

Aside from using a disc retriever, most brands have at least one option for discs that float in the water. Carrying one of these floating discs might be something to do if you play on courses with a lot of water hazards!

What To Do If Your Disc Lands in the Water

Watching your disc fly away and land in the water is something that every disc golfer worries about at one point or another. And even though we always try our best, sometimes a throw just gets away from us.

The best way to get your lost disc out of the water is by using a disc retrieval tool. These are small enough to fit inside your bag and definitely come in handy if you can save your disc from the water.

Another thing that I like to do if I’m playing new courses with a lot of water hazards is to bring a cheaper disc with me that I wouldn’t be too upset about losing. Buying a midrange or distance driver in the base plastic for holes that you don’t feel totally comfortable on can save you money in the long run on discs.

Does All Lightweight Plastic Float?

Not every disc is made in a lightweight option, but most lightweight discs will float in the water. This really only applies to discs around 130 grams or less, which there aren’t too many discs that are that light.

Here are a few examples of plastics that are considered lightweight:

  • Innova Blizzard
  • Discmania Blizzard C-Line
  • Discraft Z Lite
  • MVP Fission

Most brands do offer some sort of lightweight plastic option, although those are usually in the range of 140-155 grams.
